Puppy Love is Real!

You know I love using bits of Visual Designs by Chris' files to create layouts.  On this one, I used two and then some other mixed in media.  I used the hearts from #CD00654 The Kitchen is the Heart of the Home.  BUT, because I am a frugal scrapper, I was using scraps and didn't get a large enough piece... uggghhh....  so, the heart to the right had the edge cut off.  A popped up punched heart easily fixed that.  Whew!  And added a little texture to the layout.  Then I used the "LOVE" from #CD00690 Love the Arts.  I could not totally ungroup the files to just get the word so I cut it as close to the bottom of the WB screen as possible and then trimmed it out.  Love it!  Puppy is cut using my Quickutz Star alphabet.  "is Real!!" are stickers from Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby).  Bling:  heart and butterfly bling from a gem pack in the $1 bin at Michaels.  A few little gems on the punched heart are Paper studio.  The swirly bling is Prima.  Drew in the butterfly antennaes and wrote Valentine's Day 2010 at the top with a black 01 pen from Prismacolor.  My favorite black pens ever!

Happy New Year to everyone!

I wanted a way to dress up a gift card so I thought why not make an explosion box? So I made the box, but it was a little plain. Chris's Santa from her QMC was the perfect addition to spruce up the box. I loved him on the card, but he's even cuter in miniature on the top of the box.

The other project uses Chris's Winter Cupcake Wrappers. That file collection can be found here. This set includes four great wrappers. I cut the tree wrapper and backed the trees with green. I rolled up a pair of fuzzy socks and fastened them with a rubber band. To make it look more like a cupcake, I put a small pompom on the top.

Christmas Card with Chris's file

I just loved this snowman that is part of Chris's QMC. I cut him and layered him on a white decorative mat with inked edges. Then I put him on a gate fold card. i used a rubber stamp to stamp a greeting inside the card. I just love how cute he is!

Stationery Box

I've been on vacation this last week and worked on this a few days.  It was so much fun to make.  Felt so good to play!  It is a birthday gift for my closest friend.  I saw the idea several m here:  http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/resources/tutorials/stationerybox/
I did not follow her design exactly and I used mod podge all over it so it held up a bit better.  I also didn't have double sided thicker paper that matched so I xyroned the papers I wanted to use to a white sheet of cardstock.

Visual Designs by Chris files used were #CD00306 Whimsical Flowers, #CD00630 Hannukah Tags and #CD00686 Oversided Square envelope.

The inspiration for the theme was from the Mary Englebreit items I picked up in the dollar bin at Michaels.

Other items used:

Stamps:  Studio G alpha, To & From were from Stamp Affair
Distress inks:  Worn Lipstick, Crushed Olive & Antique Linen
DMC Thread & Buttons (I most always thread them for a more finished look)
Ribbon:  red is scrap I had and the green with flowers is from Michaels (remember to burn the edges so they don't ravel *smile*)
Bling
Square postage stamp punch:  McGill ... If you do not have a punch, you could use #CD00542 Postage Stamp borders.

The stamp envelope started with the large square envelope from #CD00686 but I resized it and made it rectangular.  You can adjust many of the files to suit your need!  I velcroed this to the bottom flap.

The tags and cards were created with scrap papers left over from cutting out everything for the box.

Including several photos so you can see all the detail.  Love details!!  I can't wait to give it to her!

Christmas invite using a part of #CD00630 Hanukkah tags

This is my invite to my Life ConneXtion group for our Christmas gathering.  As always a lot of mixed media.  Started with craft cardstock.  Using up some of my 8 1/2 x 11 stash.  I like to use bits of files to create something.  In this one I only used the background image of the Hanukkah tag from Visual Designs by Chris #CD00630.  I cut an ornamental design using my Tim Holtz Sizzix die.  The tab is a McGill punch.  This patterned paper is old old old.  Some of the first paper I purchased when I started scrapbooking in 1997.  LOL  Love when I can use some old treasures.  Distress inks on all paper edges:  tea dye, crushed olive and pine needles.  Stamps:  The Merry Christmas stamp was a $1 wood stamp from Michaels.  The tree is a clear stamp from a $1 holiday set at Michael's. It didn't have a trunk on the stamp so I just hand cut one.  "I believe" was one of my first stamps purchased way back in the early 90s.  It is from Raindrops on Roses.  I used Memento Rich Cocoa Inks to stamp everything since I used Copics to color my tree.  Copics:  YG03 YG06 and Y06.  Just scribbled the color on fast since I was cutting it out to pop dot it. The poinsetta flowers were clearanced at Michaels this summer. $1 each and I used the pine needles ink to tone down the bright green of the leaves.  Rhinestones on the flower instead of using the brads that came with them. I  used the brads off to the side of the tag.  Those are yellow rhinestones on the tree.  Sort of looks like eyelets in the photo.  Those would work too.  All rhinestones were from the $1 bin at Michaels.  I used Hero Arts Dazzle Glue on the tree star.  I purchased it so long ago, I am surprised it was still useable.  *smile*.  Still needed something so I added stitching around the edges with a chocolate Zig writer and this pretty green ribbon.  Remember to burn the edges with a lighter so they don't ravel.   Done!  It felt good to sit in my studio and create!

Thank-you card

 I need a quick Thank-you card for a friend...

The paper is some Tinkerling Ink scraps.  I cut a flower from Chris's flower file (cd00359).  I cut it several times to make it look like chipboard.

I hope she enjoys the card.

Layout using CD00752 - Pictures with Santa

I really like this paper pieced Santa and title. It has been a few years since I managed to get a picture with Santa, but this file from Chris's QMC was perfect to scrap this photo of my eldest daughter, her hubby and my son from 2007.

I have created this layout in Photoshop CS3. Styles, textures and shadows have been added to create dimension to the layout. Designed to show that Personal Cutter files (Cricut, Pazzles, Klic N Kut etc) files can be used digitally!

layout using Chris's Native American Collection

In September, hubby and I had the chance to ride the Trail of Tears, ending up at the Trail of Tears rally in Florence, AL. We took some pictures along the way, and at the park. I thought Chris's file - Native American collection - would be perfect. You can find it here. I cut the head out of gray cardstock and layered the title on the edge of it. Each corner has an embellishment, one is a brave on a horse and the other is an ax. I'm sorry the picture quality isn't better, but I lost my good camera, and this one doesn't have a macro setting on it.

Vegetable Garden using CD00770

I love Chris's Sparkle files and this one was no exception. I always have to give Halloween themed files a little extra thought as we don't really celebrate Halloween here in Australia. I am a huge fan of Scarecrows and was thrilled to see one in this collection of Sparkle files, which also includes a Witch, Witches Hat, Crow and a Skull. This latest file collection CD00770 - Halloween Sparkles is another fabulous file that Chris has as a part of her QMC for this last quarter for 2010.

I have created this layout in Photoshop CS3. Styles, textures and shadows have been added to create dimension to the layout. We have recently spent a couple of weeks creating a vegetable garden and when I saw Chris's Scarecrow with Sparkles, I knew I needed to use it with my photos of our new garden.

Thankyou for looking,

Love Love Love this pup!

A layout using the VDBC file #CD00550 Love Title.  This looked a bit different in my head but oh well.  Instead of the flower in the file, I used a very similar punch from 2Grrls.  Added a little bling and some white highlights with a gel pen.  The ribbons are cut from a lighter lavendar paper and blended with some Concord Grape Distress ink.  If you can't see, her shirt says "Puppy love is real".  I wrote that on a strip of white..  Sierra had given her a mohawk with purple doggie hair gel.  I think she looks like a stuffed animal in the wallet sized photo.  Fun layout to do.

Fried Chicken, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy (#CD00337)

Yes, another recipe page.  Here and there I like to do one.  My plan is to give each of the girls a book of family favorites.  I hope it is a long time before the gift is given but I don't want to wait till the last minute.

This layout uses Visual Designs by Chris file #CD00337 Henny Hen.  Pretty simple layout... ribbons, brads and some cut up strips to make straw.

Laundry Soap recipe (#CD00646)

Disclaimer: strips are straighter than they appear.  LOL  I used just the border of Visual Designs by Chris #CD00646 MY LOVE FOR YOU.  I like using bits of a file for things they weren't really created for.  This strip looked like bubbles to me.  Created larger bubbles with circle and tear drop punches.  Inked the bubbles a little with Close to My Heart ink.  Just cut strips of yellow to add as separation.

Recipe LO: Ma's Apple Pie

This is my ma's yummy apple pie recipe!  I used just the apple from the Visual Design by Chris file #CD00331 APPLE FOR THE TEACHER.  I cut the apples out in white and cut off the leaf.   I inked the apples with mauve, red and tea dye Distress inks adding highlights with a white gel pen.  Then I cut the regular leaves in green.  The title is Quickutz Maggie mini and an apple and tear drop punch - inked like the other apples.  Some fun ribbon and pop dotting of a couple of the apples.  Added a bit of white gel pen highlights along the edges of the layout.

I made this recipe page with Chris's Silverware Jumble file. You can find it here. I put a piece of patterned paper (grill utensils) over the base cardstock and then layered the silverware cut over that. The recipe is of my favorite homemade BBQ sauce.

Beleive in Yourself / Graduation layout using #CD00695

I was excited when I saw this file from Visual Designs by Chris knowing my daughter was graduating this year.  As usual, I used a VDBC file along with a lot of other things in my studio to create the layout.  I love mixed media!!  The file is #CD00695 the Grad 2010 frame.  Other lettering for the title is chipboard letters for the B and Y, stickers for "in" and  my Quickutz/mini Marisa for the remainder of the words.  Other embellishments include patterned paper, wired ribbon with little stars on it, black bling, star brads, paper flowers with glitter brads and a diploma charm.  Chipboard includes the parenthesis, oval behind the B and the exclamation point.  These were painted with Honey Mustard radiant pearls.  I also dry brushed a little of the radiant pearls on the paper flowers.

Fun layout!

Christmas Card using CD00744

AS soon as I saw this file in the QMC, I wanted to cut it!  I love Chris's layered Card fronts and this one was no exception. I used card stock by DCWV and a piece of silver for the roof top and inked around the edges of my card.

The file cut like a dream and layered well! I love the final look. I did cut 2 of Santa and then layered the 2nd over the top to give my reindeer a different colour. Very happy, Thanks Chris!!

Chess Card

Remember the Birthday card I made last month using Chris' (CD00707) Chess file?  I've included a picture of it again.  Here's another card I made. This time using the negative from cutting the chess pieces. I used the same Happy Birthday from Shelly's Art Sentiments Variety (SS00007) at www.PaperThreads.com . Don't forget your negativesJ.

"Art Work" Layout

Here is my layout for the August Sketch Challenge.  I didn't follow the sketch exactly but it's still recognizable – lol.  I used Chris's file "Artwork created by" (CD00636) for my title, KAndrews' free school file that came with the challenge (will add my journaling to it later after I decide what to put). And all the circles are from Shelly's Art (at paperthreads) "Playful Flowers" file (SS00037). That includes the scallop on top.  I was too lazy to make my own and I remembered her file first.  I also used an Earth charm and paint palette charm from www.acharmingplace.com.

Thanks for looking.

layout with Chris Durnan's Silhouette Bunnies with Sparkle

Lately we've noticed some new friends in our neighborhood. A family of bunnies has moved in. I used Chris's Silhouette Bunnies with Sparkle file found here. You can't tell from the pictures, but I cut them on sparkle paper. I added two prisma flowers with rhinestones in the center. Added a title, some journaling, and some clover background paper.

Valentine LO using CD00286

I enjoyed making the card so much that I decided to use the same fancy swirl accent #CD00286 from Visual Designs by Chris to make a layout.

Isn't this pup just the cutest?  This is my grand puppy.  She is 7 1/2 pounds of pure love!  The sweetest dog I have ever met.  No one will ever replace our Abby girl  but this pup sure makes me smile.  I pop dotted the photo.  Scrap papers from my table.  Sometimes it pays NOT TO clean up the mess, eh?  Pearl, pearl swirl and brads all from Hobby Lobby.  Heart pins from Heidi Grace.  Mix of flowers... some were Prima and some were freebies from something.  I think maybe pulled off of a silk flower stalk.    The epoxy sticker says My Valentine Baby and was from a package in the $1 bin at Michaels.

Another example of how you can use your other product with a VDBC file!

Layout using CD00737

This layout uses digital personal cutter files CD00737 - Parrot  that is a file available in the QMC that Chris runs in her Store on a quarterly basis.

I have used styles and textures to add dimension to the Cutter files and created this layout using Photoshop CS3. The photos are of a Cockatoo that we found injured in our yard. He was so friendly, took water out of a bottle that we fed him. However, turned out this was a symptom of something far more nasty (he was a wild bird) and unfortunately he died whilst waiting to see the Vet.

Card using CD00286 Fancy Swirl Accents

Created a quick card while I was home for a few days using the CD00286 file.  This made for a quick card with a little bling, a scrap of polka dot paper and some flowers.  The pearl brad and swirl accents are from Hobby Lobby... my summer home.  *smile*   Added a little lady bug sticker as an accent.  Very quick.  That's what I love about Chris' files.  I can make something so easy that looks like it took me longer than it did.  *smile*

July Page Sketch Challenge

Well - I finally got my pages put together!  I cut everything a week ago.  These are pictures from July 4, 2009.  I used the free files that came with the challenge created by RSMobley Designs and some extras she gave away on her blog - thank you Sharon!  I love these files.  I added 3 small star charms on one page (from www.acharmingplace.com) after I colored them with a red sharpie pen.  I added a background circle to the circle star mat then cut it in half to use on my pages.

Happy Birthday Card

Here is the card I made for my Mother's 80th birthday.  I used Chris' latest Happy Birthday Card file (CD00731) from the Apr-June QMC.  I'm sure it will be in the store soon if you weren't a QMC member last quarter.  I added Hawaiian accents because my Mom loves Hawaii!!  She has vacationed there 3 times since she retired, she loves it so much.  I also posted a picture of the Birthday girl on her birthday!!  Doesn't look too bad for an 80 year old, does she?

After a lady hit hubby's motorcycle and crushed the rear fender, he decided to have it completely repainted. I thought I'd make a mini album showing all the work he had to do to put it back together. I used several of Chris's files, which can be found here:

Tab Book
Gear Head Accents
Gear Head Jumble
Just Flaming
Flaming Wings

I cut the back tabs off the album and bound it with my Bind It All.
I use a rubber stamp for the track pattern, then layered flames and gears under the pictures. I double cut the front and back from regular cardstock and glued them together to make a little sturdier cover for the album, since I don't know how careful hubby will be with it, showing off his pride and joy to his friends.
